Loose Diamonds Buying Tips
Diamonds are forever. It is a girl’s best friend. It never goes out of style. Or, if you don’t like how it looks on a certain piece of jewelry, you can always have it reset. But clearly, the sparkle and brilliance of a diamond will never lose its attraction to people, which do not just make it the most durable stone, but also the most enduring and endearing.
Now, when you are on the look out to buy diamonds, particularly loose diamonds, be sure that you know at least the basics so that you get something that is a great investment and a joy to behold.
When choosing a loose diamond is, you should consider some things: the cut, the clarity, the color and the carat weight. First, a diamond should be cut so as to display the most brilliance and “fire”. The cut should be so that light is thoroughly absorbed by the stone and reflected in a number of equal directions.
Secondly, a diamond should have good clarity. This is achieved by a diamond’s having few imperfections or blemishes. When there are cracks, mineral deposits or air bubbles, these diminish the value of the diamond. A diamond must have as little of these as possible (both on the inside and out) for it to have great value. Thirdly, a diamond, to be considered valuable, should be as colorless as possible. When the diamond is colorless, it is more able to absorb light and reflect it. Its being colorless makes for a more brilliant diamond. Also, the colorless diamonds are quite rare, so they are more valuable. Lastly, a diamond is valued by its carats. The larger the diamond, the higher the price. The rise in price is exponential – a two-carat diamond is several times more expensive than a one-carat diamond.
Also, when you are buying a diamond, it is good to have a certificate for the diamond.
These certificates are given by certification bodies that are internationally known and accepted. The certificate outlines the kind of diamond you have, its grade according to the four Cs and other criteria, the major facets the stone has and other identifying qualities. Having a certificate will more or less guarantee the value of your diamond, in case you need to sell it in the future.
